Consciousness Studies EBook

Consciousness Studies EBook

Consciousness studies embraces the neuroscience and philosophy of consciousness. Everyone has their own view of the nature of consciousness based on their education and background. The intention of this book is to expand this view by providing an insight into the various ideas and beliefs on the subject as well as a review of current work in neuroscience. The neuroscientist should find the philosophical discussion interesting because this provides first-person insights into the nature of consciousness and also provides some subtle arguments about why consciousness is not a simple problem. The student of philosophy will find a useful introduction to the subject and information about neuroscience and physics that is difficult to acquire elsewhere.

Topics covered:

  • Consciousness Studies

X86 Disassembly

X86 Disassembly

The act of program creation, using common compilers and assemblers, takes software from an information-rich source code format and transforms it into a difficult-to-read machine code format. The reverse process, trying to convert machine code into a human-readable format, is significantly more difficult and requires high-level intuition and pattern matching skills.

This book is going to discuss the disassembly and decompilation of x86 machine code and x86 assembly code.

Topics covered:
  • Tools
  • Assemblers and Compilers
  • Disassemblers and Decompilers
  • Disassembly Examples
  • Analysis Tools
  • Platforms
  • Microsoft Windows
  • Windows Executable Files
  • GNU/Linux

Haskell Programming

Haskell Programming

Haskell is a functional programming language. If you have programmed before and would like to see a little bit of how Haskell works and is different from other programming languages, you can get an overview in this ebook.

Haskell is unique for two reasons. The first is that it is purely functional. If you have a function and you call it twice in two different places with the same arguments then it will return exactly the same value both times. Secondly, Haskell provides a very modern type system which incorporates features like typeclasses and generalized algebraic data types.

So, why do Haskellers like the language then? Is it just because we like using things that are unique and modern? No, Haskell programmers enjoy their work because dealing with just pure functions makes it so much easier to understand our programs and prove them correct. Moreover, having an advanced type system helps us catch our mistakes, both the silly and profound ones.

In this book we aim to introduce you both to the Haskell language, from the very basics to its most advanced features, and to computer programming in general.
